what is an ips?

What is an IPS?
An Internet Service Provider (ISP) is a company that provides you with access to the Internet, usually for a fee. The most common ways to connect to an ISP are by using a phone line or broadband connection
Examples of an ISP are:
Comcast
Time Warner
Verizon
Charter

Cox.

What services do IPS offer
Most ISPs also offer web hosting capabilities, allowing users to create and maintain personal web pages; and some may even offer the service of developing the pages for you. Many ISPs offer the option of high-speed access through DSL or cable modems, and some still offer dial-up connections.

What is an IP address
a unique string of numbers separated by periods that identifies each computer using the Internet Protocol to communicate over a network.

What is a URL
URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator, and is used to specify addresses on the World Wide Web. A URL is the fundamental network identification for any resource connected to the web (e.g., hypertext pages, images, and sound files)

What is a website
a location connected to the Internet that maintains one or more pages on the World Wide Web.

What is a web browser?
A web browser is a software application for retrieving, presenting, and traversing information resources on the WorldWideWeb. E.g:
Mozilla Firefox
Google Chrome
Internet Explorer
Apple Safari
Features of a web browser include:
Navigation buttons

Different types of security used for a network

Various wireless security protocols were developed to protect home wireless networks. These wireless security protocols include WEP, WPA, and WPA2, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. In addition to stopping uninvited guests from connecting to your wireless network, wireless security protocols code your private data as it’s being transmitted over the airwaves.

Data Security
Data security refers to protective digital privacy measures that are used to prevent unauthorized access to computers, databases and websites. Data security also protects data from corruption.

Examples of Data security
software/hardware disk encryption backups
data masking
data erasure.

Access security
Access control is a security technique that can be used to regulate who or what can view or use resources in a computing environment. There are two main types of access control: physical and logical. Physical access control limits access to campuses, buildings, rooms and physical IT assets. Logical access limits connections to computer networks, system files and data.

Examples of access security
There are two main types of access control:
Physical – like passwords
Logical – like access rights
The four main categories of access control are:
Mandatory access control
Discretionary access control
Role-based access control
Rule-based access control

Physical Security
Physical security is the protection of personnel, hardware, programs, networks, and data from physical circumstances and events that could cause loss or damage to an enterprise, agency, or institution. This includes protection from fire, natural disasters, burglary, theft, vandalism, and terrorism.

Examples of physical security
Physical measures:
Locks
Fences
Walls
Safes
Surveillance systems:
Heat sensors
Smoke detectors
Alarms
Cameras
Methods can be implemented to apprehend attackers and to recover quickly from accidents, fires, or natural disasters.

Networks

LAN

local area network (LAN) is a computer network that connects computers within a certain area such as a residence, school, laboratory, or office building.

WAN

A computer network that covers a relatively large area. Typically, a wide area network (WAN) consists of two or more local-area networks (LANs). Computers connected to a WAN are often connected through public networks, such as the telephone system. They can also be connected through leased lines or satellites.

Different Types of servers

A server is a computer program that provides services to other computer programs in the same computer or other computers. The computer that a server program runs in is also referred to as a server.
•File server: A computer and storage device that stores files. Any user on the network can store files on the server.
•Print server: A computer that manages one or more printers. It is what allows you to be able to go onto any computer and print something out of the same printer.
•Email server: A mail server is an application that receives incoming e-mails from local users. An email server will consist of a storage area, which is where the mail is stored for local users.

The difference between the World Wide Web and the internet

Some people get mixed up between the World Wide Web and the internet but they're actually two different things.

The internet is a huge network of networks. Its what connects your computer to other computers globally, meaning that you connect with any other computer across the planet who also has an internet connection.

The world wide web (WWW) is the way of accessing and sharing information in the form of HTML pages using the internet to do so. It's a way that you can connect with actual people across the planet through the web.
